Black History Month: Proud and Powerful by Debbie Mitchell

Happy Black History Month! We are proud to support our WeCare Inclusion and Belonging committee in celebrating our #TeamPlanGroup members who are part of the black community.

At Plan Group, we are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive work environment where everyone feels valued and respected. We recognize that there is still a long way to go in reducing the inequality and discrimination faced by black people. However, our committee is dedicated to fostering a positive work environment that promotes cultural understanding and embraces diversity.

As part of this process, we invited some of our employees who are part of the black community to share their thoughts and perspectives on what Black History Month signifies to them. Today, we invite you to join us in reading the article written by Debbie Mitchell.

Black History Month means everything to me. It's celebrating my ethnicity as a strong black, powerful Caribbean woman.

When growing up, my mother always told me to be proud of who I am. I look at all the successful black women, like Maya Angelou. She has inspired me in so many ways.

I see her strength, her courage, her powerful words that she, as a woman we as black people, needs to teach the strong history of ethnicities of our culture. I take a lot from Black History Month.

"Life is what you make it, and we can choose to sit and do nothing or be the one to make the change".  Maya Angelou
"I am a black woman with strong melanin skin". Maya Angelou
“Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise. I rise. I rise”. Maya Angelou
