12 Golden Rules for Health and Safety: We Work Safely

We’re entering the third week of National Safety Month! As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting our safety culture, we are excited to introduce seven additional "Golden Rules for Health and Safety." Before we do, we would like to share a quick reminder that ties in perfectly with working safely.

Our latest shipment of hard hat chinstraps has arrived and is available for immediate ordering at the tool crib. It is now mandatory for all employees to wear a hard hat with a chinstrap when on-site, and we highly recommend that you order them for your active field staff without delay.

WE WORK SAFELY This section of our 12 Golden Rules for Health and Safety focuses on how we can actively contribute to a work environment that ensures each of us gets home safely at the end of the day. Working at Heights (WAH) ALWAYS implement collective measures to mitigate falls from heights & prevent falling objects. ALWAYS wear your body harness. Hazardous Energy ALWAYS verify that there is no live energy (mechanical, chemical, electrical, fluids under pressure, etc.) before starting work. Vehicles, Equipment & Traffic Management ALWAYS stay out of the path of moving vehicles, plant and equipment, and ensure that you are clearly visible to the driver. Lifting Activities ALWAYS follow best practices for safe lifting, keeping clear of loads and lifting/moving activities. Confined Spaces NEVER enter a confined space before ensuring entry is authorized and permitted. Hot Work, Fire and Explosions NEVER perform hot work unless all fire hazards and explosion risks have been identified and eliminated. Stability of Excavations and Structures ALWAYS ensure trenches and excavations have been secured and are structurally stable. Health ALWAYS ensure the environment is healthy (chemical, dust, fumes...) and adapt the job to the person (ergonomics) ALWAYS stay focused when using hand-held devices Let’s embrace these seven new Golden Rules and make them a part of our everyday routines to reinforce Plan Group’s existing safety culture.
